Reconstruction

Once MgM has opened roads to villages and towns in the bush, reconstruction starts apace. In Baixo Longa we can see a new school being built. With the road now demined and open from Menongue (Provincial Capital) through Longa to this town, trucks, materials and artisans are able to support the spontaneous relocation for the displaced population. The tree line, seen in the background, is where the barrier minefield was, that MgM deminers removed. Over 1,000 anti-personnel mines were removed and destroyed from around this town, that is now rapidly re-populating.

This photograph show that even though people are returning home, they have their priorities sorted out. First, up goes the satellite TV receiver, then work will start on re-building the house. Technology is highly prized with access to the information highway. Even the smallest village in Angola has a Government installed satellite receiver with a land-line phone attached and access to the internet. If no electricity is available the Government has installed either a Generator or Solar Panels to allow the population access.
